Juba - South Sudan national referee Santino Abalgak Malual has condemned the violence and unsportsmanlike conduct reported during the Bahr El Ghazal Counties Tournament (BCT) match between Twic Mayardit and Cueibet, on Sunday.
Malual described the incidents as unacceptable, stressing that football should serve as a platform for peace, unity, fair play and community pride.
He warned that physical altercations and aggressive behavior involving players, technical staff, match officials or supporters undermine the values of the sport and put the safety of participants and spectators at risk.
The national referee also called for greater respect for match officials and opponents, emphasizing that disagreements over decisions should be handled through established sporting and administrative channels rather than intimidation or violence.
Call for accountability
Malual has urged the BCT organizing committee to conduct a full and impartial investigation into the events and take strict disciplinary action against individuals or groups found responsible.
He also appealed to supporters and community leaders from both Twic Mayardit and Cueibet to remain calm, exercise restraint and promote peaceful competition.
“Football must remain a platform that brings people together, not one that divides them,” Malual said.
The statement was addressed to the BCT organizing committee and members of the media, with Malual reaffirming the need to protect the integrity and spirit of football throughout the tournament.
