KIGALI, Rwanda — Yei Joint Stars FC have made history, becoming the first South Sudanese club to reach the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers semi-finals after a dramatic 1-1 draw with Rayon Sports.
In a decisive match at the Kigali Pele Stadium, on Tuesday, Rayon Sports struck first in the 48th minute through Ukwikuda, giving the hosts hope of securing victory and finishing top of Group A.
But Yei Joint Stars refused to surrender.
The Super Queens found their breakthrough in the 79th minute when Moureen Nankinga produced a composed finish after a fine attacking move involving Kayungu Vivian Iga and Mary Anger Bol.
Nankinga showed strength inside the box before keeping her cool to fire home the equaliser and secure a crucial point for the South Sudanese champions.
The result sees Yei Joint Stars finish top of Group A with seven points, following two wins and one draw from their three matches.
The historic qualification marks a significant moment for South Sudanese women's football, with Yei Joint Stars reaching the final four of the CECAFA qualifiers for the first time.
The achievement also represents a strong start to Coach Sony Harriet's return to the Yei Joint Stars dugout, as the team continues its pursuit of continental success.
Yei Joint Stars will now face Kenya Police Bullets in the semi-final on 29 August 2026 in Kigali.
A victory would move the Super Queens one step closer to securing a place in the CAF Women's Champions League and completing an unprecedented run for South Sudanese club football.
