JUBA, South Sudan | September 3, 2026 — South Sudan head coach Christian N’Sengi-Biembe has unveiled a 48-man provisional squad as the Bright Stars prepare for the start of their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 qualifying campaign.

The provisional squad features four goalkeepers, 14 defenders, 17 midfielders and 13 attackers, giving N’Sengi-Biembe a wide pool of players to assess ahead of the qualifiers.

South Sudan will open their campaign with an away fixture against Malawi, before welcoming Egypt in their second qualifying assignment.

The squad was announced through the South Sudan Football Federation (SSFF) official channels on Thursday evening.

However, the federation has not disclosed when the Bright Stars will begin their training camp, with details of the team’s reporting date and preparations yet to be announced.

The Malawi fixture will be N’Sengi-Biembe’s first competitive match in charge of South Sudan since taking over as head coach. 

The Congolese-Belgian tactician signed a one-year contract on August 10, 2026, with an option for an extension depending on performance.

The 48-man provisional list is expected to provide the coach with the initial pool from which he will select his final squad for the opening qualifiers.

With Malawi away and Egypt at home awaiting the Bright Stars, N’Sengi-Biembe faces an immediate test as he begins his tenure with South Sudan and looks to guide the team towards a place at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
