Juba - Munuki SC claimed their first-ever South Sudan Premier League victory after defeating Malakia SC 1-0 in Week 2 at the Buluk Playground, in Juba on Monday evening.
The Juba derby was decided by an early strike from Emmanuel Makeny, who netted in the 11th minute to give the Premier League debutants a valuable three points.
Makeny found himself unmarked inside the box after a Munuki teammate put pressure on Malakia centre-back Malual before providing the assist. The winger made no mistake with the opportunity, firing Munuki into an early lead.
Malakia struggled to find an equaliser as Munuki protected their advantage and secured a clean-sheet victory.
The result marks Munuki SC’s first win in the South Sudan Premier League, following their impressive 2-2 draw with El Merriekh SC Bentiu on the opening day.
The three points take Coach Kayanga John’s side to four points, moving the Snakes temporarily into second place in the league standings.
For Coach Musadiq Ahmed Deng’s Malakia SC, the defeat is their first of the campaign. Malakia had started the season strongly with a 3-0 victory over Wajuma SC.
Munuki will now turn their attention to their next league fixture against Holy Family, while Malakia SC are set to face Al Hilal.
