JUBA, South Sudan — Jamus SC maintained their perfect start to the 2026/2027 South Sudan Premier League with a 3–1 victory over Al Ghazala SC at the Bulluk Playground in Juba on Sunday.
The inaugural South Sudan Premier League champions have now collected maximum points from their opening two matches as new head coach Saber Ben Jabria continues his winning start at the club.
Al Ghazala, led by new head coach Rezik A. Hakim, came into the match looking for their first league victory after opening their campaign with a 1–1 draw against Atlabara FC.
Al Ghazala created the first clear opportunity in the fifth minute when forward Mohammed Zakariya raced onto a through ball behind the Jamus defence and attempted to lob goalkeeper Majak Mawith, but the Jamus shot-stopper reacted quickly to keep out the danger.
Jamus responded two minutes later when winger Dhata Joseph got behind the Al Ghazala defence after receiving a long ball. His attempted backheel was cleared before he could trouble the goalkeeper.
Jamus continued to threaten, with Mario Taban testing the Al Ghazala goalkeeper with a powerful effort that was kept out.
The pressure finally produced a breakthrough in the eighth minute when Wani Ivan unleashed a powerful left-footed strike from outside the penalty area to put Jamus 1–0 ahead.
Al Ghazala remained dangerous and nearly levelled through midfielder Chan Peter in the 30th minute. The former Jamus player fired a long-range effort that Majak Mawith tipped behind for a corner.
The resulting set-piece produced the equaliser. Emmanuel Sabote reacted quickest at the near post to tap the ball home and bring Al Ghazala level.
The sides went into half-time with the score at 1–1.
Jamus coach Saber Ben Jabria made changes after the break, introducing midfielder Joseph Malish, popularly known as “Gonga”, and forward Jude Ssemugabi.
The substitutions had an immediate impact.
Gonga picked out Ssemugabi with a through ball into space in the 56th minute. The forward shaped to shoot with his left foot before calmly finishing past Al Ghazala goalkeeper Tong Ngor Diing to restore Jamus' lead.
Al Ghazala coach Rezik A. Hakim responded with several substitutions, including the introduction of captain David Vincent, as his side searched for a way back into the contest.
However, Jamus remained organised at the back and continued to threaten on the counter.
Ssemugabi completed his brace in the 62nd minute to put Jamus firmly in control.
The move began with Joseph Malish “Gonga” delivering a long ball behind the Al Ghazala full-backs. Dhata Joseph reached it and delivered a first-time cross into the area, with Ssemugabi also finishing with a first-time touch to beat Tong Ngor Diing.
Jamus had another opportunity to extend their advantage when Hergi Samoni found himself in a promising position close to goal, but his effort was saved by the goalkeeper.
The final whistle confirmed a 3–1 victory for Jamus SC, with Ssemugabi's second-half double proving decisive.
The victory gives Jamus six points from two matches, maintaining their 100 per cent start and moving them to the top of the Premier League standings.
Al Ghazala, meanwhile, remain on one point from two matches and drop to 10th place as they continue their search for a first league victory.
Jamus will now turn their attention to Kator FC in Week 3 as they look to continue their title challenge and reclaim the Premier League crown.
For Al Ghazala, attention now shifts to continental football, with the Super Cup champions preparing for their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary-round tie against Singida Black Stars.
