JUBA, South Sudan — Joseph Malish ‘Magong’ has been left out of South Sudan’s provisional 48-man squad for the upcoming fixtures against Malawi and Egypt, despite making a decisive impact for Jamus SC in the South Sudan Premier League.

The midfielder has had a limited role at club level since the start of the 2026/27 campaign, featuring as an unused substitute during Jamus SC’s CECAFA Kagame Cup campaign and remaining on the bench for the club’s opening Premier League fixture.

However, Magong made his presence felt in Week 2.

Introduced in the second half with Jamus locked at 1-1 against Super Cup champions Al Ghazala SC, the midfielder immediately brought greater attacking impetus to the game.

He played a key role in Jamus’ second goal, setting up Jude Ssemugabi to put the Buffaloes ahead.

Magong was involved again in the build-up to the third. His long pass found Dhata Joseph, who delivered a first-time cross for Ssemugabi to finish and complete his brace.

The contribution helped Jamus secure a 3-1 victory and marked a significant individual response after spending much of the opening weeks of the season on the bench.

Despite that performance, Magong has not been included in the provisional squad selected ahead of South Sudan’s upcoming international assignments against Malawi and Egypt.

For the Jamus midfielder, the omission places greater emphasis on his club form, with consistent performances likely to be central to any future opportunity with the Bright Stars.

His Week 2 display provided a timely reminder of his ability to influence matches from midfield — and Magong will now look to build on that performance as the Premier League season continues.

One impressive cameo has started the conversation. The challenge for Magong now is to turn that impact into consistency.
