JUBA, South Sudan — Central Equatoria State opened the 1st Inter-States Independence Peace Volleyball Tournament with a dramatic 3–2 victory over Warrap State at the Nimra Talata Volleyball Stadium in Juba.

Central Equatoria made the stronger start, edging a tight opening set 27–25 before taking the second 25–18 to move within one set of victory. But Warrap refused to surrender.

They fought back in the third set, winning 25–24, before producing their strongest performance of the match in the fourth, racing to a 25–14 victory to level the contest at 2–2.

With the match decided by a fifth-set shootout, both sides traded points in a tense finish. Central Equatoria eventually held their nerve, edging Warrap 16–14 to seal a 3–2 comeback-resisting victory.

The win gives Central Equatoria an early advantage in Group A, where they compete alongside Warrap State and Unity State.
